HIV and Skin Workshop
When can you use complementary therapies on skin
conditions, and when should you not? What are the risks of dissemination
or secondary infections? What are the risks of transmission to practitioners?
What are the treatments on offer? A much requested seminar, essential
to all complementary therapists whether they work with skin to skin
contact or not, this workshop will cover the causes and progression
of a range of skin conditions, including reasons for particular
“dramatic” manifestations, such as:
• Inflammatory dermatoses associated with HIV infection •
Infestations
• Staphylococcal and other bacterial infections • Cutaneous
drug eruptions
• Viral & Fungal infections • Side effects of anti-retroviral
therapy
Trainer: Dr Lesley Navartne
Dr. Lesley Navaratne has been working in HIV for 10 years. She is
fully accredited in GUM and HIV medicine and is currently working
as a specialist registrar at St.Thomas Hospital, London. She is
also working in Family planning and is setting up the first HIV
testing service in a family planning clinic in London. Her main
area of interest is in women's issues with HIV, family planning,
and community STI services.
Training 2. Sunday 6 November 2005 –
9.30am – 5pm London
Drug Misuse Training Day
This course will provide you with
a basic awareness of drug use and the presentation of problematic
and recreational drug users. You will learn about the benefits of
complementary therapies to this client group and gain insight and
knowledge in working and interacting with this client group.
Trainer: Katy Porter
Katy Porter is the Service Manager of City road residential care
home which provides short-term support and treatment to drug users
in crisis. The project has incorporated complementary therapies
into their care for the past 12 years and Katy has been involved
in the training of complementary therapists in working with this
client group for the past 3 years.
Training 3. Sunday 4 December 2005 – 10am –
2.30pm London
Bereavement Workshop
How do we live through bereavement? What are some
ways of thinking about bereavement, which will help professionals
to best approach and support the bereaved? How can we best respond
to people who are bereaved when we are not in a counseling role?
This workshop will offer some communication tools to help practitioners
approaching this often-delicate issue.
Trainer: Martine Renoux
Martine Renoux qualified as an integrative psychotherapist in 1987
and has been working for the trust supporting and training complementary
health practitioners since 1994. She has a private practice in North
London.
