Becoming an CHT practioner
We aim to:
Provide the
best possible service to our clients
By delivering
comprehensive supervision and training and support to our practitioners.
All clients are different. Each is an individual with his/her own
needs. BUT - clients coming to CHT have been diagnosed with a life-threatening
condition. So they may be vulnerable, afraid, in despair, experiencing
physical problems - or may be in a delicate emotional state.
It is vital that our practitioners are experienced, robust, knowledgeable,
sensitive, non-judgmental and highly skilled - both in their therapy
discipline, and in working with CHT's clients.
Recruitment |
We carefully assess applications to join us, and interview
prospective recruits. We require practitioners to be qualified
in their therapy, by a training school that we recognise,
and have a minimum level of experience before applying. |
Contract |
All practitioners must sign up to our "Agreement
for Provision of Voluntary Service", which sets out
what is expected of an CHT practitioner, and what a practitioner
can expect from CHT's management and administration team,
in addition to an agreement by the practitioner to abide
by CHT’s Code of Ethics. |
Training |
New practitioners must undertake a two-day induction
training before starting. They then have access to our
range of seminars, workshops and symposia. |
Supervision |
New practitioners must join a monthly supervision group
in their first year; then bi-monthly. The group is "multi-disciplinary"
- ie. made up of practitioners from a range of disciplines.
The supervision aims to support practitioners in developing
their practice, dealing effectively with client management,
boundary issues and confidentiality, and complying with
CHT's ethical framework. |
Peer study |
We provide study opportunities that enable practitioners
to develop their professional practice. These include
our networking evenings, and our case-study symposia. |
Insurance |
All practitioners must have professional indemnity insurance.
CHT's practitioners are all covered by our group scheme
when undertaking voluntary placements at CHT. |
Code of Ethics and Practice |
Our Code of Ethics and Practice is based on five main
ethical principles:
- CHT shall be an environment of integrity, impartiality
and respect for all individuals, and all professional
relationships and interactions shall be ethical and
non-exploitative.
- There shall be an atmosphere of mutual trust and
respect among all workers and clients.
- All individuals shall be able to expect to feel
physically and emotionally safe when using CHT services
or working for CHT in either a paid or unpaid capacity.
- The highest standards of practice and competence
should be observed.
- Confidentiality must be respected wherever appropriate.
The Code of Ethics and Practice applies these principles
to various clinical situations and suggests strategies
for dealing with them, and where relevant, the CHT
policy on a particular issue.
|
Other policies |
We have a number of other documents, which provide
a policy framework for CHT and support the professional
practice of our practitioners. These include:
- CHT governance
- Internal disciplinary procedure
- Equal opportunities statement
- Dealing with clients with suicidal feelings
- Complaints procedure
- Practitioner management structure
- Training and development policy
- Model of Excellence
